Galilee and the Golan Heights - Jewish Oriented Tour
The Galilee is mostly known in the Jewish world, as the region where a new way of Jewish life originated.
We'll start the day exploring the ancient city of Zippori, visiting the house of Yehuda Ha'Nassi (the president), who has signed the "Mishna" (a collection of Jewish oral traditions) at the end of the 2nd century CE. the house is decorated with the most beautiful mosaic floor in Israel depicting images associated with Dionysus.
Next, in the city of Tiberias, one of the four holly cities, we'll visit Rambam's tomb (Maimonides). We'll drive along the sea of Galilee and ascend to the Golan Heights, to visit the ancient site of Gamla, where a Jewish community has confronted a fierce Roman siege during the Great revolt of the 1st century CE. on the way you'll learn about the battles that took place on the Golan Heights, during the six-days war (1967) and the Yom-Kippur war (1973), and take a look across the border into Syria.
We'll end the day at the City of Saffed (Tsfat), known as the center of Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism, visit the synagogues of the Ari (rabbi Izaak Luria) and Joseph Karo, and walk through the cobblestone alleys and the art galleries.
